Running for a Reason

June 16th, 2018
Running for a reason_Ragnar Trail

In addition to our other 10 races we are running this year, my husband and I decided we wanted to build a team of 8 athletes to complete a Ragnar Trail relay. We had no idea it would be one of the best weekends ever! When I became the team captain, I was a little hesitant about coordinating a team. We needed an additional 6 runners to run a total of 14.4 miles each to total 114.4 miles and we wanted team members to be open to cannabis use and promotion. A couple other cannabis athletes we knew joined the team to support the cause. Marie Peel, co-founder of Denver’s luxury transportation service... Read More

Cannafitness

If you didn’t already know, I’m a cannabis athlete. What does that mean? I am a trail runner, based in Colorado. I use cannabis for epilepsy and my overall health and wellness. Using cannabis before and after physical exercise is extremely beneficial. When I consume before a workout, I’m able to complete the exercise with less pain and more focus, for longer durations. Consuming after exercise is beneficial as well. Cannabis is a powerful anti-inflammatory, which makes it perfect to use for recovery after training or a race. CannaFitness is cannabis and fitness combined. I run with my husband,... Read More

I’ve always loved getting massages, but didn’t really understand all of the benefits it can provide. After speaking to several cannabis companies who were at the wellness fair, I was offered a massage! Primal Therapeutics was attending and offering on site... Read More

Cannabis Miles for Charity

March 3rd, 2018

With 11 races scheduled this year, including an 8 person Ragnar Relay over 2 days, the MJFITNUT Team will be logging in some serious miles. Each one of those miles spent training and competing will be fueled by cannabis. Does this mean cannabis flower and concentrates, or edibles and topicals? All of the above. Does it also mean hemp seeds, hemp protein powders, and other hemp food products? You bet it does. These routines are that of a cannabis athlete, and the miles cannabis athletes put in could be called cannabis miles. MJFITNUT has committed to donate their cannabis miles to charity, and you... Read More

Cannabis for Seniors

February 24th, 2018

With the legalization of cannabis across more states and the stigma surrounding the plant and its users shifting, so has the demographic of people benefiting from the plant. According to the CDC, Americans aged 55-64 who use marijuana regularly has risen by 455%. Those aged 65 and older has risen by 333% from 2002-2014. Why is this shift occurring and how can seniors benefit from cannabis? We know that each person has their own endocannabinoid system. The endocannabioid system has recently been recognized as the most important modulatory system within the body. It is responsible for regulating... Read More

February 10th, 2018

Cindy Sovine and her team recently submitted their application to open Utopia, which will be the nation’s first full service cannabis spa. It will be a safe space for cannabis infused yoga and massages. They also plan to carry hemp products for health and beauty, as well as offering meditation, and acupuncture services. I attended the Seven Points World Tour, in Denver, where I had the pleasure of seeing Cindy speak in person. She has a very moving story, and her passion to advocate for the health benefits of cannabis is quite apparent. Although the application was just submitted recently, I’m... Read More

It’s time for the Super Bowl! I wonder how many of the athletes playing are consuming cannabis on a regular basis. Chances are, quite a few. Cannabis and football has been a hot topic over the past few years as more former NFL pros have come out of the green closet to advocate for its use as a medicine. Highlighted in Season 2 of the Netflix show, Disjointed, the Gridiron Cannabis Coalition got to make a public service announcement calling for the use of cannabis over opioids. Weed Law 101

January 6th, 2018

Part 1: Blame It On Mexico Marijuana law and policy is complicated. As with all political issues, understanding where we have been historically is crucial to deciding where we should go. A little history helps put things in perspective and contributes to crafting reasonable drug laws. I present to you the first installment of Weed Law 101. This country’s on and off again love affair with cannabis started long before this nation was formed. Beginning as early as the 1600s, North American settlers encouraged hemp production for the manufacture of rope, sails, and clothing. (By hemp, I mean the... Read More
