CannaFitness is the Game Changer

July 29th, 2017

I would like to take a moment to introduce the addition of myself to the weekly CannaFitness column. My name is Heather DeRose, and together my husband, Antonio DeRose, and I own and operate Marijuana Fitness Nutrition at mjfitnut.com. We have been working jointly on this column for quite some time now, and I am excited to have been brought on board officially to alternate in producing articles bi-weekly, where I will bring you a female’s perspective inside the rapidly growing world of cannabis and fitness. Being a sponsored Cannabis Athlete myself, I will share with you my experiences about... Read More

Combining Push Ups with Lighting Kush Up

July 22nd, 2017

Marijuana and training are one of my favorite combos. I really enjoy a good run after an uplifting strain, like Blue Dream, or even going into the gym on a heavy strain like Gorilla Glue, and swinging some kettlebells around. Either way, the results are the same. A sense of focus and determination fueled by proper nutrition and cannabinoids, followed by a euphoric release of endorphins as my autonomic nervous system is jumpstarted by the physical activity. This is another reason I consume cannabis as part of my health and wellness routine, which is to calm my central nervous system after training.... Read More

The Best Bud in Colorado, The Laurel Rosebud

July 15th, 2017

Having been a cannabis consumer for over 15 years, I’ve smoked a lot of greens over that time, but this may have been the most fun I’ve ever had on them. The day itself was absolutely beautiful, with perfect weather for the occasion. My wife and I arrived early, and had no idea we were about to experience some of the best bud in Colorado. Looking back, I can’t remember laughing that hard in a long time. It very well could have been the pre-rolls from Medicine Man, or maybe it was meeting former NFL athletes like Robert Griffith, Isaac Keys, and Eugene Monroe. Either way, we had the best time! The... Read More

Break The Stigma Fitness Opening!

July 8th, 2017

(Feature photo of Jennessa taken by Kenesha Facello) Denver, CO is the world’s current capital of weed, and, with Denver being one of the fittest places in America, it’s no surprise to see so many people training with cannabis, and making gains. As consuming cannabis as an athlete increases in popularity, we’re seeing the growth of the CannaFitness industry in many forms. This includes the famous 420 Games Denver, and the opening of Break The Stigma Fitness, a cannabis friendly fitness studio opening July 23rd, with a pre-opening pary on July 9th. The studio will offer fitness classes,... Read More

STASHLOGIX is a Logical Solution for Your Stash

July 2nd, 2017

How do you keep all of your herbs, shatter, edibles, and accessories in order?   Are you like me and have a bunch of different containers that you use?  Maybe you use an old cigar box?   Or do you use a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lunchbox from the late 80’s?   If you’re a cannabis connoisseur, I’m sure you have your own way of hiding your stash.   But could it use an upgrade?  I know mine sure can! This is where STASHLOGIX comes into play.  Based in Boulder, STASHLOGIX designs “thoughtful, discreet, and secure” bags and accessories.   While they advertise their bags for... Read More

The Normalization of Cannabis Through Sports

July 1st, 2017

Last night, I had the pleasure of viewing Ricardo Baca’s screening of his new project, Subculture, at Denver’s SeriesFest. It was after the screening, during the audience Q&A, when I was inspired by some of the comments made my Baca and his team. Baca is a legend in the world of cannabis, but for anyone who might need context, some of his accomplishments include being the world’s very first marijuana editor, and spearheading the formation of The Cannabist, a division of the Denver Post. Fortune magazine ranked Baca as one of the seven most powerful people in American cannabis while the... Read More

420 Games Goes the Extra Mile High in Denver

June 24th, 2017

(Free entry/Discounted tickets here!) There is a new industry taking the cannabis community by storm, and it’s CannaFitness, also referred to as cannabis and athletics, or cannabis and sports. With so many professional athletes, and everyday gym goers, coming out of the green closet, it’s making it very clear to the public that cannabis consumers are not lazy. Having so many people stand up, to end the age old stereotype of cannabis making you lazy and stupid, people from all walks of life now have a distinguished flag to rally behind. That flag is the 420 Games, and they’re coming to Denver... Read More

Confession Of A Budtender

June 20th, 2017

This week I was criticized by a reader for not offering a true “confession” like the title of this blog suggests. Alright I have a reader! The thing is though, there is not much to expose about being a budtender. There are no secrets that need uncovering, no whistleblowing that needs doing, and no oppressive leader that needs toppling. I am not an investigative journalist up here to call out the weed industry for their abuses of power, I am just a dude who works in a weed shop. “Breaking News! Nobody likes strains that are low in THC, more on this story next week”. I like to make fun of... Read More

Let’s Talk Topicals

June 17th, 2017

I beat myself up physically, by challenging myself in training so I can be stronger, faster, and better than the day before. Training isn’t just the work you put in at the gym, or on the track, it’s also a lot about recovery. I consume cannabis in many different ways, for different reasons, as detailed in last week’s article, Consuming Cannabis as an Athlete. This week we’re going to take a closer look at topicals, how they play a role in training and recovery, and what you can do to start using topicals into your everyday wellness routines. I have had the chance to experiment and try... Read More

Finding a Helping Hand on Pearl Street

June 11th, 2017

A few weeks ago, I was having dinner with a couple friends on Pearl Street.   As we were enjoying our meal, we started discussing this blog and some of the dispensaries I should check out – both in Boulder and others in the State.   We decided right then and there, after eating, we’d check out Helping Hand Dispensary which is located on Pearl between 10th and 11th. I’ll be honest, I’ve passed this dispensary a few times and never really given it much thought.  I had never gone in before or looked it up online, so walking in I had no preconceived notions at all.   My first instincts... Read More
